How to cancel Netflix (2026): every way, step by step

Cancelling Netflix takes about two minutes and there are no cancellation fees. The only real trap is where you signed up: if Apple, Google Play, Roku, or a carrier bills you, the cancel button lives with them, not with Netflix.

Before you cancel

A few things worth knowing first, because they change what you should do:

Cancel Netflix on the web

This is the main route, for anyone Netflix bills directly:

  1. Go to the Manage your membership page at netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in if you are asked. You can also click your profile icon on netflix.com, choose Account, and open the Membership section.
  2. Select Cancel.
  3. Under Cancel, select Finish Cancellation.
  4. Check your inbox for the confirmation email Netflix sends to the address on the account.

Netflix is blunt about one point on its help page: this is the only way to cancel your account and end your membership. Signing out of your account or deleting the Netflix app does not cancel anything.

Cancel Netflix on your phone or tablet

There is no separate in-app cancellation flow. On a phone or tablet, open a browser and follow the web steps above at netflix.com/cancelplan. Inside the Netflix app, tapping My Netflix, then the menu icon, then Account takes you to the same account page, where you select Cancel membership and then Finish Cancellation. If the app hands you over to your browser partway through, that is normal.

No cancel button? Someone else bills you

Netflix's help page says it directly: if you do not see the cancellation option in your account, you will need to cancel the account with your payment partner. The Membership section of your Account page names that partner and usually links to their instructions. The common routes:

Pause instead of cancelling

If you just want a month or two off, the Cancel Membership page offers many members a pause instead: pause for 1 month, and you can extend it up to 3 months in total. You keep watching until your next billing date, the pause starts then, and billing resumes automatically when the pause ends. The pause is not offered on every plan or payment method, so if you do not see it, cancelling and restarting later works just as well, since your details are kept for a while after the account closes.

What happens after you cancel

How to confirm the cancellation worked

Three checks, in order. First, the confirmation email from Netflix; keep it. Second, open your Account page and look at Billing details, which shows the date your account will close. Third, glance at your next card statement: no new Netflix charge should appear after that date. If a charge does show up, the usual cause is that someone with access restarted the account. Cancel again from the Manage your membership page, then change your password and choose the option to sign out of all devices.
